Photo Journey has been to the west coast of Scotland several times, but it’s the first time we have held a course on the Inner Henbidean Isle of Colonsay. Just 10 miles long and 2 miles wide, it’s the perfect place to explore the coastlines, beaches, lochs ands wildlife of this beautiful, enchanting place.
8 of us explored and enhanced our photographic skills; having huge fun with our daily “5 click” challenges before setting off each day to a new part of the island. Each day offering something very different to the last – a climb to highest point; a visit to a heavenly bay so perfect it looked magical; a low-tide wade across the sands to the RSPB island of Oransay to the south; a visit to the beautiful gardens of Colonsay house and the incredible (and record-breaking girth) of the Cypress tree; and the inland lochs with mysterious buildings on islands contained within.
The programme held lots of interest but didn’t feel rushed and allowed us time to gather our thoughts and do our own thing if we wanted. We loved it! Stephen Gray
We stay at one of the most remote farmhouses on Colonsay – with wonderfully comfy beds. Each day was a different delicious breakfast, after which we made our packed lunches for the days out. On return, we were treated royally – venison, local fish and sea-food pie, roast salmon all part of the offering.
And before supper? Each evening we spent time editing our images before reviewing them on the big screen (with a glass of wine!) – a period of time to reflect on what we have learnt, and one of the most enjoyable and satisfying parts of the course.
